The Oculus Rift VR will be shipping to customers in the first quarter of 2016. The prototype debuted back in 2012 with subsequent versions funded through Kickstarter. Oculus Rift has been previously seen as targeting gamers. However, the company is now owned by Facebook so it’s unlikely to remain on the fringes for long. Developers have always sung the praises of the Oculus Rift but industry experts think it’s probably too little too late. Samsung has already released Samsung Gear. Handset maker HTC is collaborating with Valve on a VR device called Vive. Google Cardboard has also given consumers an affordable taster for virtual reality and another use for their phone!
