Social media marketers and Instagram lovers rejoice! Instagram’s just dropped multiple account support for all. This coveted feature will be rolled out to users over the next week meaning we’ll be able to switch back and forth between accounts without needing to log in and out each time. With the ability to add up to five accounts to the app, we can tell you that our sassy dogs, curious ferrets, inner mermaids and selfie-loving alter-egos are pretty chuffed to no longer have to fight for the limelight. Tethering multiple Instagram accounts to a device is super simple. The settings ‘cog’ on the top right of the profile page leads to an ‘Add Account’ option. Alternating between accounts beyond this is a breeze – just tap the username at the top of your profile to move between aliases. The update also comes armed with a host of intuitive visual cues for users – so we can freely stalk our nemesis without accidentally liking their 21 week-old snowfall video as ourselves.
As Instagram begins to embrace its identity as the new darling of visual brand marketing, users are treated to an ever-growing suite of digital marketing treats. Earlier this week, the company boosted its video ad capacity by 100%. The 60-second slot is an especially bold move in attracting lucrative TV ad dollars to the social media platform. The possibility of longer session times lends itself to a higher rate of engagement for Instagram overall, as well as creating further opportunities to monetise the platform’s offerings.
The one severe drawback for the social media marketer that comes out of these changes though is that feel when you have 100 new Instagram notifications, but none of them are for your well-lit, perfectly-angled selfie.
